Local Law Enforcement
Approximately 50 vehicles have been marked with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Cars, exterior walls and mailboxes were defaced, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they announced in a official communication.
Law enforcement say they were notified during the night on Wednesday night, when a man discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored substance.
The liquid had been drawn in the form of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Police then found multiple other marked vehicles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are illegal in Germany under regulations banning the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement say preliminary tests indicate the fluid was likely blood from a person.
"There is still no indication as to where it came from; investigators are presently not cognizant of any harm in association with the incident," they stated.
Municipal representatives said they were attempting "to unravel the mystery" and have appealed to the community for tips.
An important representative commented the incident made him without words and required to be solved promptly.
"This event affects the core of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the extremist violent incident in 2020," he wrote on social media, recalling the murder of nine victims by a gunman targeting residents of foreign heritage in 2020.
