19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 championships have been earned on hard surfaces

A comeback Medvedev claimed his maiden title for over two years with a win over Corentin Moutet in the tournament title decider.

Medvedev, a ex- world number one, has experienced a torrid period, achieving just one match at the Grand Slams and undergoing a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

The player's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and issues with his service game in specific - led to him falling of the world's top 10 and finally separating with long-term coach Gilles Cervara.

Presently training with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has consistently progressed in the last few weeks - climaxing in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over challenger Moutet.

This represents Medvedev's maiden championship since the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hardcourt after spring of that year.

The win also indicates he has achieved twenty-one victories at twenty-one different competitions.

"For the first time I am participating in a event with my children at once, so to secure a title is especially meaningful," commented world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This title is in dedication of my child my daughter, because the initial championship I won when my child Alisa was delivered was for her."

The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his previous six championship matches, comprising in Halle previously this season.

Medvedev's counter-punching approach and frequent reactions on court had caused observers to question if his ability to perform at the top level was over.

Yet the 29-year-old has implemented adjustments in the past month, attempting to advance forward and perform assertively, supported by an enhanced serve.

Medvedev recovered from a break down in the initial set against the difficult Moutet, taking four of the concluding five points to go ahead.

The pair traded breaks in the second set before Moutet, striving for his maiden professional championship, took control to push for a decider.

He saved four early break points in a tight deciding set before Medvedev broke to fifteen to close out the victory.

Appropriately, Medvedev secured the title with a rally at the front of the court, with Moutet failing to control a volley after a lengthy match.
